How to get the most from your GP appointment!
GP appointments are just 15 minutes long. Here are some tips to help make the most of them:
• Make a list of your concerns and do mention them all as they might be related
• 15 minutes is usually enough to deal with one problem effectively, so if you have a complex problem or multiple problems please book a double appointment
• Make sure you understand the outcome and plan made for you; don’t be afraid to ask questions
• Bring a friend or family member for moral support if you wish
• Consider your clothing. For blood pressure checks a T shirt is easier than rolling up a sleeve, and something loose and easy to lift will help us listen to your chest
• For women who may require an internal examination you may feel more comfortable wearing a skirt
• We can only cater for one patient per appointment so please don’t ask for another family member to be seen at the end
• We can provide chaperones for physical or intimate examinations, if possible please ask for one at the time of booking
Unfortunately, sometimes running late is unavoidable, but we try our best not to keep you waiting for too long!
Please be patient in the waiting room, and do check with reception if you have been waiting for more than 20 minutes.
Did you know? – An appointment can be made as a telephone call if you would prefer, and it is clinically appropriate.
