Junior Doctors Strike Action

Posted on:

Junior doctors in England are set to strike from Friday 25th July 2025 to Wednesday 30th July 2025. The strike action has been called by the BMA due to a dispute with the Government over fair rates of pay.

Strike Details

Dates:

The strike will commence at 7am on Friday 25th July 2025 and conclude at 7am on Wednesday 30th July 2025. This action follows a renewed mandate for industrial action announced by the British Medical Association (BMA).

Reason for Strike:

The primary reason for the strike is a pay dispute. The BMA is advocating for a 29.2% salary increase to restore pay levels that have declined in real terms since 2008 due to historical pay freezes. The recent government pay increase of 5.4% was deemed insufficient by the doctors.

Impact on NHS:

The strike is expected to have a significant impact on the NHS, potentially leading to thousands of cancelled appointments and operations.

What this means for Arthur Medical Centre:

Arthur Medical Centre is proud to be a training practice for postgraduate doctors who have worked in hospitals and are gaining experience of general practice. Registrars are part of this group of junior doctors who the BMA have called to strike. We currently have three Registrar doctors who are taking part in industrial action, which leaves us with no choice but to cancel patient appointments as we will not receive any support for this lost resource. We will contact patients who are affected by this industrial action – if we do not contact you, please assume that your appointment is unchanged. Whilst we understand that this will be frustrating for patients who are affected by the strikes, we do ask for your understanding and patience as any disruption is outside of our control.
