Proposed changes to Derbyshire County Council structure

Posted on:

A consultation has been launched on plans to merge Derbyshire’s borough and district councils as part of an upcoming restructure of local government, which will have a direct effect on Amber Valley. Details can be found at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clynn7y5j2po

Essentially there are 3 x proposed new structures which will mean that Amber Valley is included in North Derbyshire, South Derbyshire or split between the two. This would mean that there would be a likely impact on the practice as certain areas that we serve could end up in one council structure and other areas in a different one.

We do not currently understand what the effect on provision of healthcare in our area would be, however bearing in mind that we work in tandem with local services such as Social Services and other departments which are run by the council, this could pose some difficult challenges for the practice and patients, especially if the area is split across different councils.

Residents are being asked to contribute to a consultation questionnaire to inform the council(s) of public opinion on the matter and we encourage our patients to contribute to the consultation. The survey can be found at https://online1.snapsurveys.com/Interview/2a5d01f0-fc91-4567-ac16-e2ae57fce464
